This analysis identifies strategies to enhance outdoor thermal comfort and reduce energy consumption in college libraries.
To address the prominent issues of high energy consumption in college buildings and poor outdoor thermal comfort, this study takes the library and its surrounding environment at Hunan Railway Professional Technology College as the research object. Using ENVI-met software, the thermal environmental conditions on a typical summer day (July 30, 2025) were simulated. By analyzing the spatiotemporal distribution characteristics of the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI), air temperature, wind speed, and building surface temperature at a pedestrian height of 1.5 meters during three typical time periods (8:00, 14:00, 18:00), the influencing mechanisms of the thermal environment in this area were revealed. Optimization strategies for reducing building energy consumption and improving outdoor thermal comfort around the library were proposed, providing a theoretical basis and practical reference for the green renewal of campus buildings in hot summer regions.
