Simulation study enhances efficiency to 25.63% in CIGS/MgZnO heterostructures, highlighting better back contact materials.
The efficiency of CIGS/MgZno solar cell remains limited by parasitic absorption in the ultraviolet (UV) region. To address this challenge, this study investigates the performance improvement of MgZnO/CIGS heterostructure through the integration of an intrinsic CIGS (i-CIGS) interlayer and optimization of physical parameters. A comparison of different back contact materials (CuO, Ni, Au, Pt, MoO₃) indicated that Ni, Pt, and Au provided superior diode behavior and energy alignment. Furthermore, thermal analysis demonstrated that the highest efficiency of 25.63% was achieved at 290 K, using Au as the back contact, with a CIGS thickness of 4 µm and MgZnO thickness of 0.05 µm. These findings confirm the effectiveness of incorporating an i-CIGS layer to enhance the performance and thermal stability of CIGS/MgZno-based thin-film solar cell.
