Comparison reveals ceramics from developed 8YSZ powders show higher ionic conductivity, suggesting improved performance for solid oxide fuel cells.
The electrolyte materials of solid oxide fuel cells, made of the developed 8YSZ powder and its analogue manufactured by Tosoh (Japan) were compared. It was found that under the same manufacturing conditions, ceramics from the developed powder demonstrated higher strength and ionic conductivity. Thus, samples sintered at 1400°C made from the developed and foreign powders, with a total porosity of 2.5% and 4%, have an electrical conductivity of 2.75∙10–3 and 1.23∙10–3 S/cm, respectively.
