This review examines how inhibitors of cytochrome P450 enzymes enhance health, indicating their promise as therapeutic targets.
Several human cytochrome P450 enzymes (P450s) that are found in steroid/oxysterol biosynthesis are therapeutic targets to treat disease. For instance, P450 17A1 activity is inhibited by abiraterone, a prostate cancer drug. This review article describes current research in the development of various inhibitors of steroid P450s (P450s 17A1, 19A1, and 8B1) that are used to benefit human health.
