Systematic review shows Z-plasty technique is effective for lingual frenulum excision in pediatric patients, suggesting careful technique choice impacts outcomes.
OBJECTIVE: To compare the rhomboidal technique with the Z-plasty technique for lingual frenulum excision in pediatric patients. METODOLOGY: The research was conducted following the PRISMA declaration guidelines, with a modification of the Patient, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome (PICO) question, as well as the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. The scientific databases were Scopus, Web of Science and SciELO. Articles without language restriction were selected as inclusion criteria. The CARE scale and analysis were used to assess the quality of the articles. RESULTS: The rhomboidal technique is the most commonly employed method for lingual frenulum excision in pediatric patients. CONCLUSIONS: The most common type of frenulum in this review, according to Coryllo's classification, was type III. This surgical procedure was most frequently performed at the age of eight, with 12 males and 11 females included in the study.
