Quasi-experimental design improved social-emotional competence in participants, suggesting mindfulness enhances personal strengths.
This study explores the dynamic interplay between heart and mind character strengths within a mindfulness-based strengths intervention and proposes the Mindful Strengths Matrix (MSM) as a novel framework. Using a quasi-experimental pre-post design (N = 126), participants underwent an eight-week Mindfulness-Based Strengths Practice (MBSP) intervention. Results showed significant improvements in heart strength, mind strength, social-emotional competence (SEC), and trait mindfulness. Mediation analysis revealed that strength synergy mediated the relationship between MBSP and SEC, while moderation analysis confirmed that trait mindfulness amplified the effects of strengths. The MSM consists of heart and mind strength axes, empirically derived to classify individuals into functional strength profiles. Findings contribute to strengths-based psychology by identifying mindfulness as a meta-cognitive integrator of character strengths and SEC. The MSM offers a practical and theoretically grounded tool for interventions in education, mental health, and leadership development.
