Clinical trial demonstrates acupuncture enhances quality of life and therapeutic efficacy in pseudobulbar palsy treatment.
Objective: This study aims to discuss the therapeutic clinical efficacy of acupuncture in the treatment of pseudobulbar palsy. Methods: A total of 180 patients with pseudobulbar palsy were randomized into an experimental group ( n = 90), which received acupuncture plus conventional therapy, and a control group ( n = 90), which received conventional therapy alone for 4 weeks. Changes in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) evidence scores, swallowing function, articulation function, quality of life, and therapeutic efficacy were assessed before and after therapy in both groups. Results: The experimental group showed significantly greater improvements in TCM syndrome scores, swallowing function [pudding drinking test, standardized swallowing assessment (SSA)], articulation function (Frenchay), and quality of life (Swallowing Quality of Life Questionnaire, SWAL-QOL) compared with the control group (all P < 0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture demonstrates significant clinical efficacy in the treatment of pseudobulbar palsy, improving patients’ swallowing and articulation functions and enhancing their quality of life.
