This report identifies a multidrug resistant strain of Klebsiella pneumoniae, suggesting urgent infection prevention measures in hospitals.
We report, for the first time, the presence of the MDR-hvKp ST307 clone from East Africa. One out of four ESBL-KpSC isolates was identified as a virulent strain harboring multiple AMR genes, underscoring the urgent need for routine screening of patients with prolonged hospital stays. Additionally, our findings emphasize the critical importance of robust infection prevention and control measures to mitigate the spread of AMR within hospitals in East Africa.
