Analysis reveals operational risk impacts in power systems with flexible resources, suggesting new optimization methods.
With the increasing integration of renewable energy, the operational risk of power systems has become a crucial factor. The impact of transmission limitations (TLs) on the availability of flexible resources is of growing significance and should be considered in optimization scheduling. This paper proposes an assessment method for the operational risk assessment of power systems, considering TLs for a more accurate evaluation of the operational risk. The availability of flexible resources can be quantitatively assessed by determining the maximum capacity of available flexible resources. Furthermore, a two-stage stochastic robust Security-Constrained Unit Commitment (SCUC) model is proposed to incorporate operational risk. The operational risk indices are integrated into the objective function, and the optimization models used in the operational risk assessment are incorporated into the stochastic robust optimization model. The solving algorithm based on the column-and-constraint generation is employed to solve the proposed SCUC model. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through case studies on a modified IEEE 24-bus system.
