Analysis reveals significant antibacterial activity and AChE inhibition from benzimidazolium salts against MRSA and MDR E. coli, suggesting potential in treating infections.
The compounds containing benzimidazolium salts exhibit several biological activities, including antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, anti‐inflammatory, and anticancer effects. The characterization of the synthesized molecules was conducted using FT‐IR, 13C‐NMR, 1H‐NMR, and HR‐MS techniques. The synthesized compounds demonstrated antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus , Enterococcus faecalis , Pseudomonas aeruginosa , Escherichia coli (E. coli), and antibiotic‐resistant bacteria such as MRSA and multi drug resistance E. coli (MDR E. coli). Particularly, compounds 1 and 3 exhibited significant antibacterial activity against MRSA and MDR E. coli , with MIC values of 15.62 and 7.81 µg/mL, respectively. Compounds 1–6 showed significant, dose‐dependent inhibitory activity against MRSA and MDR E. coli biofilms. Furthermore, the synthesized compounds demonstrated inhibitory activity against the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzyme. The compounds also exhibited interactions with AChE enzyme and bacterial proteins, including 1EVE, 1BXW, 6KZX, 1ZGC, and 3ZG5.
