Analysis reveals improved prediction accuracy for nowcasting precipitation in civil aviation, suggesting effective weather radar applications.
Based on optical flow method, this paper studies the application of weather radar echo extrapolation technology in the nowcasting of civil aviation meteorology and tests it using examples. The results indicate that: (1) The pyramid algorithm can effectively improve the prediction accuracy of optical flow fields. (2) The semi‐Lagrangian method can enhance the accuracy of extrapolation. (3) Based on the optical flow, combined with the pyramid algorithm and the semi‐Lagrange method, the 0–2 h extrapolation nowcasting can be effectively realized. The shorter the extrapolation time, the higher the score. (4) The optical flow method that integrates the pyramid algorithm and the Lagrangian algorithm, due to its lack of in‐depth understanding and modeling of the physical processes in meteorology, is still unable to accurately capture the key factors that affect precipitation and cloud dissipation. This leads to its limitations in predicting precipitation simulation or cloud dissipation.
