Investigation reveals molecular masses and metal ions influence GBDH in maize, indicating metabolic roles in plant stress resistance.
γ-Hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (GBDH) is an enzyme belonging to the oxidoreductase class, catalyzing the reversible conversion of succinic semialdehyde (SSA) to γ-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB). The study investigated the physicochemical and catalytic properties of two GBDH isoforms from maize seedlings. Their molecular masses, optimal pH values, kinetic parameters, and the influence of metal ions on activity were determined. The obtained results are important for understanding the role of GBDH in plant cell metabolism and can be used to enhance plant stress resistance.
