A programme of Level II/III historic building recording was undertaken of a two storey store/outbuilding at the rear of 21, market Place, a Grade II listed late 18th century Georgian town house. This recording took place prior to the proposed conversion of the outbuilding to a new annexe. A date stone of 1786 was recorded as being inserted into the south elevation of the two storey outbuilding, thus making it broadly contemporary with the Grade II listed 21, Market Place. The outbuilding would appear to have originally functioned as a barn with hay or other animal forage being stored within the first floor. An associated former hay loft opening was recorded within the first floor of the west elevation. Substantial load bearing floor joints in the ground floor ceiling below provided further evidence of this. Notable features included the double pitched or gambrel roof, an infilled former ground floor entrance opening in the north elevation, a mix of shaped and faced timbers and stripped logs in the ground floor ceiling of the western portion of the outbuilding and truncated brick dressings at the north-eastern corner of the outbuilding denoting its earlier construction in relation to an adjoining and now bonded single storey outbuilding to the east. A first floor internal dividing wall of timber frame and lathe and plaster infill panel construction was also worthy of note.
