Observational analysis shows loss of ACP objects in planetary systems of open star clusters, indicating gravitational effects of nearby stars.
Approximately one-third of stars in open star clusters of the Galaxy may have planetary systems. The high density of stars in clusters exerts specific influence on the evolution of planetary systems. Close passages of cluster stars destroy the peripheral structures of planetary systems: asteroid-comet-planetary (ACP) spears, Kuiper belts. As a result, ACP objects with orbital semimajor axes exceeding ~17 AU are lost by planetary systems, forming the ACP spears of the cluster.
