This case highlights the diagnostic approach to a benign nerve sheath neoplasm in the colon, suggesting important clinical insights into schwannomas.
A BSTRACT Schwannoma (neurilemmoma) is a benign nerve sheath neoplasm arising from Schwann cells. It is found throughout the body along the peripheral nerves but its occurrence in the colon is rare accounting for <5% of all gastrointestinal tract schwannomas. In the colon, the caecum is the most frequent site with the sigmoid colon being rare. In the colon, it mainly presents as a polypoidal mass mimicking adenocarcinoma. Hence, we report this rare case with emphasis on its diagnostic approach along with a brief review of the literature.
