Abstract

ABSTRACT Quantum dots (QDs) are quasi‐0D semiconductor nanomaterials with a size between 1 and 10 nm, which have unique and excellent properties, such as tunable emission peak, high color purity, high fluorescence quantum yield, large‐scale solution‐method synthesis, and good chemical stability. Quantum dot light‐emitting diodes (QLEDs) have become ideal for next‐generation display applications due to their excellent color purity, high efficiency, and solution processability. However, the vast majority of QDs used in high‐performance display devices contain toxic elements, such as cadmium (Cd) or lead (Pb). In recent years, with people's increasing concern for physical health and ecological environment, researchers are trying to explore eco‐friendly QLEDs through material engineering and device architecture. With the further optimization of synthesis strategy and device technology, the performance of Cd‐free and Pb‐free red and green QLEDs has been greatly improved, while the performance of blue QLEDs devices is obviously backward and less reported. This review summarized the development of blue InP QDs, ZnSe QDs, lead‐free perovskite QDs and other eco‐friendly blue QDs, as well as the research progress of QLED devices, and the current challenges and future development opportunities of eco‐friendly blue QLEDs are also discussed.
