Key Points

  • Zn electrode lifespan increased to around 8 months with optimized electrodeposition.
  • The unique charge distribution of the additive effectively alters thermodynamic deposition behavior.
  • Kinetic modulation of Zn electrodes in aqueous systems enables enhanced performance and longevity.
  • Optimized performance may impact future aqueous battery designs with improved longevity.

Abstract

The unique charge distribution on the 2-methoxyethyl acetate additive enables the thermodynamic governed Zn deposition behavior in aqueous electrolytes, thereby extending the lifespan of Zn electrodes from 79 hours to around 8 months.
