Observational analysis identified 116 new fungal species in Khabarovsk Krai, highlighting potential ecological benefits.
The Shantar Islands, located in the western part of the Sea of Okhotsk, are an archipelago characterized by a challenging climate due to ice accumulation in the sea during the first half of the growing season. The current study introduces an annotated list of 116 species identified in the area for the first time. Among these, four species — Botryobasidium asperulum, Cyanosporus cyanescens, Peniophora albobadia, and Suillus praetermissus — are new finds for the Russian Far East. Additionally, 18 more species were documented in Khabarovsk Krai for the first time. The species Pycnoporellus alboluteus is noteworthy as it is included in the Red data book of the Russian Federation. Overall, the national park within the Shantar Islands currently hosts a recorded total of 222 basidiomycetous macrofungal species.
