Key Points

  • Curcumin enhances therapeutic effects in osteoarthritis by controlling senescence in stem cells, indicating its potential utility.
  • The most significant mechanism observed was autophagy regulation linked to FoxO3 signaling affecting stem cell behavior.
  • Assessment using curcumin-pretreated adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells delivered via intra-articular injection for joint health.
  • This highlights curcumin's potential in osteoarthritis treatment but calls for further studies on clinical efficacy.

Abstract

Curcumin controls ADSC senescence via the FoxO3-mediated signaling pathway, and FoxO3 directly regulates Becnl to induce autophagy. Intra-articular injection of curcumin-pretreated ADSCs enhances joint homeostasis for OA treatment. This study provides evidence for the potential clinical application of curcumin-pretreated ADSCs in enhancing the therapeutic effects of OA treatment.
