Survey reveals that economic stability and depression influence life satisfaction in the context of alcohol consumption.
Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the influence of alcohol drinking level and mental health on life satisfaction. Methods: This study was a secondary analytic survey that analyzed data from part of the 2022 Daegu Dong-gu Mental Health Awareness Survey. Further, a descriptive study was conducted with a total of 700 participants. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS version 29.0.2.0 with independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The factors influencing life satisfaction included depression, physical health status, and monthly household income. Alcohol drinking was not found to be an influencing factor; however, occupation (service/sales job, unemployed) in the normal drinking group and gender (woman) in the hazardous drinking group were found to be influencing factors. The explanatory power of these variables was 33.7% (F-value=40.83, p<.001) in the normal drinking group and 31.1% (F-value=27.76, p<.001) in the hazardous drinking group. Conclusion: In order to improve life satisfaction, it is necessary to plan and implement interventions that focus on reducing depression, promoting physical health, and enhancing economic stability. In addition, approaches should differ according to alcohol drinking level when establishing measures to improve the life satisfaction of local residents.
