Analysis reveals modifications of SI engine to a compressed air engine may enhance eco-friendliness, indicating potential as a viable alternative fuel solution.
The environmental pollution in the cities is increasing rapidly mostly because of the increased number of fossil fuel powered vehicles. Many alternatives are now being studied throughout the world. One of the solutions can be a compressed air powered vehicle. This work focuses on the conversion of the SI engine to the compressed air engine. A four stroke single cylinder SI engine is converted to operate using compressed air because of its design simplicity. The cylinder head of the engine is modified by removing the existing valve mechanism and replace with a solenoid actuated inlet valve and non-return valve actuated exhaust passages. The engine is tested for the various valves opening and closing for different timings of the valve openings. The compressed air of required pressure is obtained from the compressor. We learned the method of developing camshaft and the valve timing techniques
