Literature is a powerful cultural resource that can make a decisive contribution to an alternative development of the tourism sector. The sustainable development of tourism businesses through literature requires a holistic approach, including cooperation between public and private stakeholders, the creation of thematic itineraries, education, digitisation of literary archives and promotion of cultural activities. The article discusses the fact that Greece has a wealth of literary heritage that can be exploited in tourism planning, developing cultural entrepreneurship also in areas with particular historical references to Asia Minor such as the islands of the North East Aegean Sea.
