Performance improvements in engine efficiency and emission reductions with biodiesel blends, suggesting benefits for energy use.
The effect biodiesel and its blends with diesel play a major role in energy sector. The stationary single cylinder direct injection engine which is used to analyze the performance and its emissions are studied by varying the load for different biodiesel blends of Methyl esters of Melothria maderaspatna seed oil. The oxygen present in the biodiesel improves the combustion at 1 kW and 2 kW load at higher blends. A B20 and B40 blend gives better combustion, lower fuel consumption and equivalent thermal efficiency at 2 kW load. At 2 kW load, CO increased and hydrocarbon emissions decreased well for B20 and B40 when compared to diesel. Carbon dioxide and NOx emissions are equivalent to diesel for all fuel blends. Significant amount of engine performance is obtained when biodiesel blended fuel used in the diesel engine
