Geochemical investigations reveal environmental monitoring methods in Baikal Polygon, highlighting snow cover analysis.
Projects and programs such as “International Geochemical Mapping” (N 259 IGCP), “Geoecology of Russia” and “Geochemical Map of Russia” with the subproject “Baikal Polygon” as well as the project “Global environmental changes from geochemical characteristics of the surficial environments” are briefly described. The comprehensive geochemical investigations are performed on the Baikal polygon within these projects. The first data of the reconnaissance geochemical survey within the Irkutsk–Shelekhov Zone, obtained from the stream sediments (including overflood sediments), study of soil sections and the snow cover, are represented.
