Case report highlights stationary waves as potential misdiagnosis for fibromuscular dysplasia in vascular imaging.
Objective Highlight the importance of recognizing stationary waves as a differential diagnosis of fibromuscular dysplasia, especially in the context of arterial dissection. Methods Presentation of a case report and different CT and MRI angiographic images on stationary waves. Results Stationary waves may represent a transient physiological vessel response to upstream resistance and its MRI angiographic images can be misinterpreted as fibromuscular dysplasia. Conclusion Vascular imaging of concentric luminal stenosis and ectasias should have stationary waves as a differential diagnosis for fibromuscular dysplasia.
