Novel dinuclear iron(II) complex shows unique chelating coordination, implying potential advancements in squarato chemistry.
Complexes incorporating oxalato and anilato constract variety of dimensional frameworks, while the squarato are typically confined to one-dimensional chains. In this work, we report the synthesis of a dithiosquarato-bridged (μ-dts) dinuclear iron(II) complex. Chelate coordination, rarely observed in squarato chemistry, becomes feasible with the dts, leading to a μ-bridged dinuclear structure. The paramagnetic states with high-spin state of Fe(II) sites are stabilized due to the arrangement of coordination sites which is constrained from cyclobutadiene skeleton of dts.
