Analysis reveals a novel life cycle model for historic buildings, highlighting conservation's role in sustainable development.
The article considers several models of the life cycle of a capital construction facility (design, construction, operation, reconstruction, demolition), as well as stages that are not captured in standard schemes. The author proposes a life cycle model for a cultural heritage site (a historic building) that reflects a focus on long-term preservation and the exclusion of demolition, so that the conservation of buildings is aligned with the requirements of sustainable development. The model also includes an additional stage - the memory or oblivion of the site after its physical destruction. The proposed life cycle model is illustrated by the case of the demolished Uktus airport terminal building, which was twice nominated for protection as a cultural heritage site.
