This nationwide study revealed that oesophageal cancer surgery is linked to a sustained decline in health-related quality of life, persisting up to five years post-treatment. Women aged 60-75 years reported a higher symptom burden, whereas men in the same age group experienced more pronounced functional limitations. Although there are some limitations regarding subgroup sizes, the extended follow-up period and high participation rate offer rare and valuable insights into the long-term survivorship experience of this patient cohort. These findings underscore the need for tailored long-term support strategies following oesophagectomy.
