Objective. To study the dynamics of cognitive functions and vegetative status on sequential therapy with Mexidol in patients with arterial hypertension of working age. Material and methods. A prospective, observational, randomized trial involving 65 patients with hypertension (33 women and 32 men, mean age 42.5±5.1 years). The patients divided into 2 groups, comparable in age and gender. In addition to antihypertensive therapy, patients in the main group (35 people) prescribed sequential therapy with Mexidol and Mexidol FORTE 250. Patients tested on scales reflecting vegetative, psycho-emotional and cognitive status (A.M. Wein scale, HADS scale, EQ-5D scale, A.R. Luria test, Schulte tables) before and 75 days after sequential Mexidol therapy. Results. On the background of Mexidol therapy, patients with hypertension showed positive dynamics in the form of an improvement in vegetative status on the A.M. Wein scale (21.3±7, vs 9.8±5.2, p=0.0438), a decrease in anxiety and depression on the HADS scale (7.3±2.7 vs 5.8±1.8, p=0.0197 and 8.3±0.7 vs 6.4±0.6, p=0.045, respectively), increased self-assessment of health status on the EQ-5D scale (52.3±8.5 vs 79±11.3, p=0.0362), decreased execution time in the Schulte test (243.6±47.1 vs 156.1±34.2, p=0.00001), increased word reproduction rates in the A.R. Luria test (6.1±0.98 vs 7.5±0.65, p=0.00001 and 5.5±0.81 vs 7.6±0.60, p=0.0001). Conclusion. According to the results of the presented study conducted in patients with hypertension of working age, consistent therapy with Mexidol significantly improved the emotional background of patients, self-assessment of health status, vegetative status, cognitive function compared with patients with hypertension who received only hypotensive therapy.
