Abstract A ground-motion database is developed for earthquakes occurring in the Australian continental crust. Despite the rich volume of recordings produced by national and regional seismic networks, Australia currently lacks a comprehensive, consistently processed, and openly accessible ground-motion database. Existing datasets are often research-specific, vary in processing standards, and are not broadly reusable. The Australian ground-motion database (AGMD) addresses this gap by collecting and processing earthquake recordings using consistent, repeatable methods and by bringing together detailed information about the earthquakes, recording stations, and waveforms. The AGMD currently includes over 5000 ground-motion records from 270 earthquakes that occurred between 1990 and 2025, recorded by over 1000 stations across 36 different permanent and temporary networks. Each recording is processed using the U.S. Geological Survey “gmprocess” software and saved in structured Hierarchical Data Format workspace files. Ground-motion metrics include peak ground motions for both horizontal and vertical components and pseudo-spectral acceleration, PSA (T), for the same components, computed for 21 oscillator periods ranging from 0.01 to 10 s. A cloud-based web portal gives open access to the data, allowing users to search, view, and download both waveforms and calculated ground-motion parameters. The system uses Amazon Web Services to manage large-scale data uploads and a PostgreSQL database for fast and reliable data access. These data will have utility for improving seismic hazard assessments in Australia and analog tectonic regions and will provide engineering practitioners with access to a repository of earthquake time histories that can be used to support engineering design.
