Prototype enhances design evaluation in virtual reality, indicating improved collaboration and visualization capabilities.
This paper explores the requirements that are necessary for a successful Design Review in Virtual Reality. To this purpose, existing solutions were first examined and a possible starting point for customisation to the demands of the Design Review for users without technical knowledge of Virtual Reality was developed. In order to realise the goal of an optimised tool, implementation took place in the form of a program prototype adapted to the identified needs, which enables the assessment and evaluation of virtual objects in a hybrid (Desktop and Virtual Reality) environment. User tests with students from design degree programmes confirmed known requirements and provided additional insights into the needs and necessary functionality for Design Reviews, such as collaboration in pairs or teams, as well as further options for the visual representation of models. The use of our prototype in the design process led to design adjustments in several cases.
