Urban Air Mobility is an emerging transport technology that involves the use of electric-propulsion aerial vehicles, capable of vertical take-off and landing, for the transport of passengers and cargo across urban and interurban routes. These aircraft will rely, as physical support for their operations, on a new (ground) infrastructure known as the vertiport. This thematic review formulates and analyzes a variety of criteria related to the development (location, configuration, and operation) of vertiports in the city, which will need to be considered by urban planners in their future planning and deployment in cities/regions once Urban Air Mobility is adopted and implemented. The criteria presented herein include, among others, location, design, regulations, safety, environmental impact, social acceptance, and equity.
