Medical technologies are continuously improving, getting more complex, and generating increasing amounts of data. Artificial Intelligence (AI), and particularly deep learning (DL), has the potential to tackle these increasing amounts of data and to transform healthcare in both clinical and administrative settings (1). There are numerous application scenarios and advantages of DL, e.g., empowering patients, improving precision medicine, economic savings, or efficiency gains (2). DL is also used to increase energy efficiency in healthcare institutions, as the healthcare sector is estimated to account for up to 5 % of carbon emissions (3).
