Mathematical modeling predicts stress fields and fracture patterns in geological structures, aiding exploration efforts.
The problem of calculation of the static stress fields appearing in systems with a homogeneous or layered medium, with passive or active inclusion (core) under effect of mass forces (gravitation, temperature anomalies) has been solved by the method of boundary elements. Two-dimensional mathematical models of magmatogenic structures of the central type with the rigid core and with the parameters of natural objects have been obtained. The qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the calculated stress fields allow the forecast of effective fracturing regions and of rupture geometry. The fracture network is shown to grow subsequently and regularly in relation to the structure core as the erosion incision becomes deeper. The data calculated are used for analyzing maps of the ruptures obtained by geoindication of satellite and airborne images as well as for planning prospecting works.
