Clinical impact of altered gut microbiota and metabolite profiles on mortality in patients with candidemia: a prospective observational pilot cohort study
To explore the relationship between gut microbiota, metabolite profiles, and mortality rates in candidemia patients.
Prospective observational study design
Candidemia patient cohort analysis
Assessment of gut bacterial diversity and metabolite profiles
Lower gut bacterial diversity observed in patients who died compared to survivors
Initial findings indicate a correlation between low diversity and increased mortality rates
Abstract
Low gut bacterial diversity is independently associated with mortality in patients with candidemia. These preliminary findings warrant confirmation through larger, well-powered studies.
