This paper contributes to the literature by inter alia (a) 'updating' section 3(1) of Sri Lanka’s Bail Act 1997 to effectuate its true intent and purpose and (b) securing the general entitlement to 'trial within a reasonable time or release' for the island's populace in furtherance of international obligations.
