ABSTRACT Nitroaromatics are a group of noxious compounds, and they are found to be potent contaminants in soil and water bodies. In addition, nitroaromatics have the capability to bioaccumulate that tend to cause ailments because of its carcinogenic and mutagenic nature. In consequence, designing sensors to trace the existence of nitroaromatics is pivotal. Here in this review, it is attempted to scrutinize the optical sensors for the detection of nitroaromatics in recent years and categorize those articles as per the mechanistic features of detection exhibited by the nanocarbon to elude redundancy. The review is concluded with perspectives on the scope for betterment of the sensor platform for efficient detection sequence.
