An archaeological watching brief records remains during groundworks for underground pipe replacement, indicating historical significance.
All groundworks with the potential to disturb or truncate surviving archaeological remains were monitored by a qualified archaeologist. This included the excavation of service trenches for the repair work to the underground pipe. An archaeological watching brief was carried out by CFA Archaeology Ltd in August 2023 at Horsefair Flats, Pontefract. The watching brief was required to record remains identified during groundworks associated with the replacement of underground pipework and to record any further remains of archaeological interest during the remaining works. The remains of a building and multiple garden walls present on historical mapping were identified.
