Key Points

  • This research focuses on how GP trainees approach learning in complex elderly care.
  • Identified three learning strategies: creating, recognizing, and choosing learning opportunities.
  • Examined how these strategies are used individually and in combination.
  • Analyzed implications for curriculum developers and supervisors.
  • Trainees utilize learning strategies as stand-alone or interconnected methods.
  • Insights can guide the development of balanced curricula for complex elderly care.

Abstract

GP trainees are learning complex elderly care by using three strategies: creating, recognizing and choosing, and using learning opportunities. These strategies are used as stand-alone or interconnected. Insights can be used by curriculum developers, university staff, and GP-supervisors to help GP-rs find a balance between the strategies, but also to develop new curricula for complex elderly care.
