This article examines the governance and history of Norman colleges in Paris, highlighting their operational structures.
Among the university colleges founded in Paris at the end of the Middle Ages, several were intended to accommodate students from Normandy who wished to study at the University of Paris. The functioning of these colleges was governed by a set of rules, set out in statutes, which ensured the smooth running of community life. This article provides a brief history of the founding of these institutions, followed by an analysis of three archival documents produced in the colleges, which are a valuable source for reconstructing how they operated: the statutes of the College of Justice (1358), an inventory of the property of the College of the Trésorier (1437), and the cartulary of the College of Maître-Gervais (late fourteenth century).
