‘The sad little park’ is a work of creative nonfiction which explores the challenging emotions and tension created by a serious family illness and proposes how that tension and the hard truths associated with it can be alleviated through the comfort and familiarity of neighbourhood objects encountered on a night-time walk. Its narrative structure is based upon a father-daughter evening walk and seeks to use this common everyday occurrence to reckon with the difficulties of greater truths about life, anticipatory grief and having tough conversations.
