Discusses precautions and analytical challenges in cloud seeding experiments, indicating their importance in effective design.
Several experiments are being conducted in Australia at present in cloud seeding with silver iodide, and the object of this paper is to point out some of the precautions which should be taken when designing such an experiment and also some of the difficulties which will be encountered in the analysis of results. A summary of a paper by Moran (1955) is included. It gives the basis for the analysis of one of the seeding experiments, shows how skew data may be transformed to a near Goussian distribution and also how to apply the principles of Analysis of Variance to rainfall investigations.
