Abstract Introduction Sexual satisfaction is a response related to sexuality that encompasses both physical and psychological dimensions. Women tend to report low orgasm rates and high levels of sexual dysfunction. These findings may be related to lower levels of sexual assertiveness, which can hinder women’s ability to express their desires and needs during sexual interactions. Investigating assertiveness may contribute to women’s sexual satisfaction. Objective This study aimed to examine and compare the predictive power of Sexual Assertiveness variables on female sexual satisfaction and to explore their association in Portuguese and Brazilian women. Material and Methods A cross-sectional online survey was conducted with 322 female university students—161 Brazilian and 161 Portuguese—aged between 18 and 29. Instruments assessing Sexual Assertiveness and sexual satisfaction were used. Data were analyzed using statistical methods. Results Sexual initiation showed a significant moderate positive association with overall sexual satisfaction (BR.454; PT.458; p 0.01), and also demonstrated predictive power for total sexual satisfaction in both groups. Conclusion Taking initiative and leading sexual activity based on one’s own desires can make sexual experiences more engaging for women and contribute to their satisfaction. A sole focus on partner satisfaction, as suggested by traditional female sexual scripts, may reduce women’s sexual interest and reinforce the stereotype of low female sexual desire. Financing No conflict.
