Evaluates penile measurements in men seeking consultation for small penis syndrome, indicating many have normal sizes.
Introduction/Objective Penis size is one of the main concerns among men regarding body image. Some seek medical attention with complaints of a small penis, even when their measurements fall within normal ranges (stretched flaccid penis of 13.24 cm and girth of 9.31 cm)1, characterizing the so-called “small penis syndrome.” This study aims to evaluate the flaccid penile girth and stretched flaccid length in patients from a specialized andrology outpatient clinic. Methods Male patients aged between 21 and 81 years, referred from primary care to an andrology outpatient clinic for complaints related to sexual function, were selected. Stretched flaccid penile length and girth measurements were obtained using a flexible, non-elastic measuring tape, following standardized procedures conducted by a multidisciplinary team composed of physicians, nurses and physiotherapists. Results A total of 216 patients were evaluated, with a mean age of 57.04 years (SD = 10.9). The mean stretched flaccid penile length was 13.6 cm (SD = 2.38), with a median of 13.8 cm. The mean penile girth was 9.19 cm (SD = 1.41), with a median of 9 cm. Conclusion Men who seek andrological consultation due to concerns about penis size often present with penile length and girth measurements within normal limits. Financing No conflict.
