This analysis describes synoptic techniques used for weather forecasting in Canadian meteorology, indicating their operational value and potential application in Antarctica.
A brief description is given of the synoptic concepts and procedures involved in the "philosophy of analysis" which has been developed in the Meteorological Service of Canada in the years since World War II. The techniques which are described have proved their usefulness under operational conditions. It is possible that modified versions of some of these techniques will prove to be of value in Antarctic regions.
