A case report reveals successful management of elbow dislocation and radial injury in an 8-year-old, indicating important treatment strategies.
Upper extremity injuries are common in children, with elbow dislocations comprising approximately 3–6%, most frequently affecting those aged 10–15 years. Boys are more commonly affected than girls by a ratio of 3:1. However, simple elbow dislocation in children under 10 is extremely rare, resulting in a lack of standardized treatment protocols. This report presents a case of simple elbow dislocation with ipsilateral distal radius physeal injury in an 8-year-old child. The patient presented with left elbow and wrist pain and deformity after a fall onto an outstretched hand. Diagnosis was made clinically and radiologically. Management included closed reduction under intravenous anesthesia and fixation for the physeal injury. The post-reduction X-ray verified joint stability. At follow-up, the functional outcome was excellent.
