Analyzes chemical composition of low-K tholeiitic basalts, indicating a unique petrogeochemical type in the Norilsk region.
The paper deals with new data on chemical composition and distribution of major and trace elements in low-K tholeiitic basalts (89 samples) from the Norilsk region. The basalts investigated are characterized by transitional petrochemical (Mg, Ca, Ti, P) and geochemical (Zr, Th, Ba, La, Ce, Sm, Yb) features between the continental flood basalts and MORB tholeiites. Specific character of the Norilsk basalts is due to Fe, V, Cr, and Sr contents. It is concluded that the rocks investigated are an independent petrogeochemical type.
