Geological investigation discovers new mineralization types in the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, suggesting diverse ore formation processes.
Twenty new locations of hydrothermal and magmatic mineralization have been found in the central sector of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. They are controlled by the junctions of large faults and are confined to the flanks of rift valleys, angular uplifts, and slopes of rift ridges within a band of about 100 km along the spreading zone. Hydrothermal sulfide ore occurrences in crystalline rocks belong to a quartz-vein formation. Two structural-genetic types of fluid ore-forming systems – tectonogenic and magmatogenic – are supposed to be present there.
