Systematic scoping review identifies feasible rehabilitation models for noncommunicable diseases in low- and middle-income countries, highlighting implementation challenges.
INTRODUCTION: Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) represent a significant global health challenge, with nearly three-quarters of NCD-related deaths occurring in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). By 2030, the World Health Organization projects that LMICs will experience significantly higher disability-adjusted life years and deaths from NCDs compared to communicable diseases. OBJECTIVE: The objective is to identify rehabilitation models that are feasible, accessible, and adoptable in NCDs in LMICs. DESIGN: A systematic scoping review. METHODS: A systematic scoping review will be conducted to identify rehabilitation models that are feasible, accessible, and adoptable, as well as research priorities for implementation of rehabilitation models, and barriers and facilitators. Articles will be extracted from four databases, i.e., PubMed, EMBASE, EBSCO, ScienceDirect and grey litreature using a predefined search strategy. Systematic reviews, meta-analyses, case reports, case series, and other reviews (narrative, rapid, umbrella, and scoping), conference proceedings, and qualitative studies shall be excluded. The Preferred Reporting Items for Scoping Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) 2020 Guidelines, titles, and abstracts will be screened by two authors independently. Any disagreements will be resolved by the third author for the inclusion of articles and removal of duplicates.
