Estimation of volcanic hazard reveals trends in intraplate magmatism and its implications for volcanic regions in Asia.
Estimation of volcanic hazard for the Central-Asian territory involves studying regularities in manifestation of the most recent volcanism in the region. It has been shown that these regularities are governed by the preceding Late Mesozoic – Cenozoic history of intraplate magmatism. A connection is revealed between Pleistocene – Holocene volcanic centers and volcanic regions of long-term development that appeared above hot spots of the mantle. Under study are trends of development of intraplate magmatism for the last 160 Ma. It is established that the present state of the region is volcanically active. On the basis of these trends, the territory is proposed to be regionalized according to volcanic hazard.
